Do You, Be You

There was a time when I thought self love, self worth and self care was only based on wearing nice clothes and outfits, having a sleek haircut, wearing expensive cologne or maybe believing that being liked by everybody and getting their approval was the real deal, but as time went by, I realized it was more than that. It starts with you. It involves a few vital necessities for instance mental health, self esteem, emotional stability etc. One thing is certain, you will never be liked by everybody, so why bother? The love and worth you are seeking from the society should start with you. The moment you discover your self worth, you lose interest in anyone who doesn't see it. Society can be a pain sometimes. Half of them will tell you that this is right, the other half will disagree. Do this! do that! wear this! wear that! You can never satisfy society.  The moment you realize this, you will know the importance and the need to do and be you.
Self worth is a value that you set on yourself after self assessment. Some tend to have low self worth. They tend to believe that they are bad people and they don't deserve any good in the world. There are a couple of ways to improve your self worth if you ever believe that, such as:
  • Avoid self criticism, pepper yourself with self motivation and self compassion. You are trying, don't be too hard on yourself. You came too far to just give up. You are doing great and you will make it, so don't worry, you got this.
  • Identify the things you are competent at and develop them. I know for a fact that there are plenty of things you are good at, whether its blog writing, or culinary and cooking or even maybe digital marketing. It doesn't have to be things you are good at, it can also be things you would have loved to know but you never got the opportunity to learn. This does not only give you competence but as an individual, knowing that you are good at something, gives you the feeling of worth.
  • Affirming and realizing your real worth. Real worth and love comes from within. Remind yourself each day that you are alive for a reason. Everyday is a new day to find that reason. You are not perfect, but remember, you're only human. We make mistakes, so its for us to learn from them and use them as stepping stones to increase our worth.
Mental health is vital. We tend not to take this matter seriously. Try to avoid things that would harm your mental health, whether its  media related or even society related. Cases of suicides have been reported on daily basis involving people harassed and bullied on social media just because of their looks, color, ethnic background and even religion. This tends to affect their mental health and self esteem. They lose confidence in themselves, believing that they are not worthy. They lose their purpose in life and the only logical solution to them is ending their misery once and for all. We can't say we blame them, but if only they knew their worth, they wouldn't have cared what those internet trolls say. Social media tends to give people too much power to judge other people. Most of them hide behind fake profiles, harassing other users just for the sake of it. How I handle the trolls in social media is by picturing them in their own pity selves, having nothing else to do other than bringing down other people to make them feel better about themselves. Don't let one's opinion define who you are. Do not be afraid  of walking away from your relationship or friends if they give you emotional distress and mental eclipse. Your mental and emotional health should be priority. The moment you master peace, your life will be a masterpiece. Pray. Talk to God. Some people are secretly in war with you. Do your best and God will do the rest.
I found someone I never want to lose, and that someone is me. And this should be your daily reminder. Your body is a temple, keep it healthy, you are destined for greatness, you just have to recognize your worth. Love and care for yourself, nobody will do it better than you, so Do you and Be you.
